Sindhis have phaki, a coarse powder made of dry fruits and seeds, for immunity and strength. Each of its ingredients has medicinal benefits for the body. Heart friendly almonds are packed with vitamin E, magnesium and potassium that help oxygen flow freely through blood, and build bones. Pistas or pistachios help in weight loss and boost the immune system. Charoli and halim (garden cress seeds) are natural coolants which improve digestion and help in weight loss. Charoli seeds are also a good source of protein, vitamin B1, B2 and C as well as niacin. Khus khus (poppy seeds) boosts fertility in women and fights insomnia. It regulates blood pressure too. Gum helps increase the metabolic rate of the body, flushes out toxins and increases digestion – all contributing to effective weight loss. Misri (rock sugar) relieves sore throat and boosts the hemoglobin levels of the body.
Ingredients:
Almonds 100 gm
Pista 100 gm
Charoli 50 gm
Khus khus 50 gm
Halim 50 gm
Misri 50 gm
Gum 50 gm
The above ingredients are coarsely pounded using a mortar and pestle. Have a tablespoon every morning with either milk or water.
